How to play Among Us on Mac

Released in 2018, Among Us has become one of the best party games of the summer. Although it offers easy to learn gameplay and a lot of fun with your friends, popular influencers and streamers have taken notice of the game and decided to put on a new performance.

While new players are a breath of fresh air for the already existing community, they can also pose server problems, especially for indie games. Despite the connection issues that Among Us encountered during its rise, demand for the game is increasing every day, and Mac users have been left behind because the game is not available on the platform.

Among Us is available on Windows PCs through Steam, and can also be played on Android or iOS. Even though it's available on Apple's mobile system operator, Among Us still isn't on Mac computers, but Mac owners have options.

How to play Among Us on Mac

Two possibilities to install and play Among Us on Mac

Normally, the most common way to play unsupported games on Mac OS devices is to install Windows, which contradicts the whole principle of having a Mac. Among Us is available on mobile platforms gives players a chance to get started.

1. Play Among Us via Android Emulator

Among Us is available on the Google Play Store, meaning it can run on Android emulators as well. These programs simply emulate an Android phone or tablet on your Mac using the original components of your computer. Not only will you be able to play the game via this method, but you will be able to play much easier than on a mobile device.

Every Android emulator that has a Mac client will have to do the trick here, but we decided to use Bluestacks for the test. Download the emulator from its official website and do the standard installation procedure. Your Mac may check the emulator you are installing multiple times during the process as emulators tend to install software that is essential for them to work.

Once you've installed the emulator, you'll need to create a Google Account if you don't already have one. Enter your credentials to log in, and you will be guided to the home screen of your emulator after answering a few questions from Google. After the connection phase, go to the Play Store and search for Among Us. You will need to install the game from here and let Android do the rest.

Close the Play Store panel once the game is installed to see the icon on the main menu. Clicking on Among Us will launch the game, and you will be taken to the key management panel which is also customizable. The game's controls are the same as on the PC version, and you should be on the main game menu when all of this is done.

Click online to host or join a game. Remember to name your characters before you start. You will not be able to bring your performance to the PC version as your progress will be on your Google account.

2. The Boot Camp method

Mac OS is very clean software, but it is clearly not the best choice for a gamer due to compatibility issues. However, it's fairly straightforward to install Windows on a Mac, allowing gamers to install any programs and games that aren't compatible.

You'll use the already included Boot Camp Assistant to do this, and progress is pretty straightforward if you follow the directions carefully.

  • The first thing is to download the Windows 10 ISO file from the official Microsoft web page. Follow the instructions to save the ISO file to your Mac, and you will be able to use it very quickly after following these directions.
  • If you don't have a DVD driver to connect to your Mac, you will need a USB stick with at least 5 GB available. Disconnect any other storage devices that you don't need during the process. Leave only the USB stick plugged in.
  • Launch Boot Camp Assistant through the search or utility folder, and check the boxes that say "Download the latest Windows software for Apple", "Install Windows." A pop-up window will ask you to locate your ISO file. Simply search for the file and choose your USB drive from the list that should appear after selecting the file.
  • The installation procedure will then ask you what SSD capacity you want for Windows. Even if this is done at your convenience, we recommend that you allocate 20 GB of space for a little more freedom on your new OS.
  • The rest of the procedure is self-explanatory since you will be prompted by windows which will ask you for your preferences on your system and its use as Windows prepares to run in the background.
  • Download Steam through its official website after installing Windows 10 on your Mac.
  • The installation procedure will be the same as if you were on a regular Windows PC, and you will just need to enter your login information before downloading Among Us.

Even though the Boot Camp method brings more possibilities as you can use other Windows programs, we recommend the Android emulator if you don't need Windows for anything other than playing Among Us on your Mac.

The emulator method is faster, and you can easily uninstall it if you want to move on, whereas it is more difficult to get rid of Windows if you've never done it before.
